Stop Greedy Phone Companies

By Band1toz|14-06-2009

Have you changed phone companies time and time again due to high rates and unsatisfactory customer service? More and more phone companies are raising their rates and often hiding extra costs in the fees portion of the bill. There are so many phone companies out there that you would think by having so much competition that prices would be lower but they aren't. For the local phone companies that have no close competition are the worst of any kind. They know that people need their service so they can get by with charging whatever they want. People have to pay it or not have phone service. Well if you are one of those people that are or have experienced these problems there is a new solution for you , VoIP. VoIp short for Voice over Internet Protocol is the hottest new thing out right now on the Internet.

Everyone that knows about VoIP is using it as well as spreading the word to everyone they know. VoIp works by converting your voice into a digital signal that will carry over the Internet. If you are wanting to call a regular phone number then the signal converts its self into a regular telephone signal before reaching its destination. You can use VoIP to do all your calling for reasonable rates. Unlike phone companies who often charge high rates per minute most VoIP providers only charge a small monthly fee. This would allow you to eliminate the need for one bill a month. With VoIP you can call anywheres in the world or just local.

You decide where you call and how much you want to pay. There are three calling options when using VoIp. You can call by using a VoIp telephone , using a normal telephone with a VoIP adapter or using a computer with speakers and microphone to call. By using VoIP you also can keep working while enjoying your phone call. With some phone companies charging as much as thirty five cents a minute or hundreds for unlimited calling VoIP is the best choice for those who use the phone a lot. Its not only more affordable but its more convenient.

If you are gone a lot and only use your phone when your home why pay so much for something you barely need. VoIP is the modern technology that is a must have for anyone that has a computer. Whether you just enjoy chatting on the phone or if you use it for business, VoIP is for you.

Why is she waving that mobile phone?

By Band1toz|14-06-2009

Next time you are in a club and you see some people waving their mobile phones at each other in the manner of a high five at a distance or even resembling a simplified version of the Haka, you make well wonder what they are up to. Don't worry. The probably have the latest generation of mobile phones equipped with accelerometers that make use of Bluetooth technology to establish local communications links. Accelerometers were initially installed in mobile phones to sense in what position the phone was being held in so that it could determine whether to provide a portrait or landscape formatted display. Also they are used for a variety of new and entertaining games.

Bluetooth has of course been around for a long time now, and links can be made between Bluetooth phones that can allow the sending of messages and exchange of information and images without having to using your phone network provider. Due to dangers of what is called Bluejacking, which is gaining unauthorised connections to mobile phones using Bluetooth and hacking them, it is necessary to use Bluetooth securely. This means setting up links between phones using a series of passwords and codes which is fiddly and inconvenient.

Hence the Haka dance with the mobiles. What happens is that a group of friends will agree a routine that involves a number of shakes and gyrations of the phone. These can be as amusing or stylish as you wish. Each movement of the phone produces a code via the accelerometer. For instance this could be fast up, slow down, fast left, slow circle etc. as complicated as you wish to make it. The code is then sent between the phones via Bluetooth. If the codes agree a connection is made and data and images can be exchanged over the Bluetooth link.

If you think this sounds cool you may wonder where you can get these mobile phones. Well, at the moment they are only being trialled in Beta mode, so unless you are already involved in the trial you will need to wait a little, but if the trials are successful you should not have to wait very long.

iPhone: More than just a mobile

By Band1toz|14-06-2009

When it comes to iPhone reviews, many tend to focus on usability, navigation and the countless fun and/or useful apps that range from keeping track of your spouse to tuning your guitar. This is a really good starting point,. Since I have purchased my own I have also become increasingly aware of how the iPhone can generally be used as an integral tool beyond making calls, listening to songs, and taking photos - and no, I'm not talking about the spirit level app.
1. Music Maker
Music Maker? I'm sure you're thinking. Well it's an iPod isn't it? Of course you're right and as I write this there are no doubt countless more apps being developed for access to the global music "cloud". Similarly, companies are also striving to offer the best iPhone integration to our home stereo systems, excellent. But can we actually use the iPhone to "make" music? The answer is yes. Indeed, a rather promotional YouTube video of a suspiciously clean-cut band called The Mentalists was circulating last week. It showed three things. The first, that truly anyone can have their 15 minutes of fame. The second: that the indy-murmur of MGMT can be closely replicated by five iPhones and four cute girls. And the third, akin to the way the Mac has become a tool of choice for electronica DJs, rock bands and even composers (Nico Muhly), it won't be long before the iPhone is as usable in this environment (if it isn't already).

2. Art Canvas
Following the creativity theme, the latest front cover of the cultural commentary magazine, The New Yorker, depicted a seemingly typical New York street scene of folks at a hotdog stand and a background bathed in neon. However, what really astounded readers was the fact that the artwork was in fact created using an iPhone and an app called Brushes. Artist, Jorge Colombo, said he used the app because it allowed him to work discreetly and in the dark whilst the public assumed he was just checking his emails. iPhone as sketchbook? Well it certainly beats the current 2.0 megapixel camera, which according to some iPhone reviews is nowhere near as good as its competitors.

3. School Assistant
I acknowledge that 1 and 2 may have seemed somewhat gimmicky, but if I told you that it will soon be mandatory for students to own an iPhone in a similar way that we all had an abacus before 1970 would you believe me. At Aoyama Gakuin University students are being given iPhones to create a stronger network between them and their professors - and to ensure they attend classes. This follows recent plans at the University of Missouri School of Journalism that will ensure all have iPhones as practicing journos are taught 21st Century skills such as (according to The Guardian): ‘community management, user interface design, crowdsourcing, data mining,' as well as being plugged into Twitter and Flickr.

4. Voice
Finally, in the true spirit of communication, the latest development in the world of iPhone seems to be helping people talk. Unsurprising really, but I am not describing phone calls and text messages. For sufferers of Autism, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy, speech aids have traditionally cost thousands of pounds and been difficult to carry around. However, an app developed in the US is allowing users to tap on-screen icons that relate and speak simple sentences ranging from requests to emotions. Amazing.

How Much Will You Make With an MBA?

By Mark Warner|10-11-2008

If you are like thousands of other students out there, you are considering getting your MBA or Masters in Business Administration. While we all have our own unique motivations for getting the degree of our choice, the amount of money we’ll be making with our degrees is usually of paramount importance. However, not everyone who earns an MBA can be expected to earn the maximum amount of money available for a number of reasons, such as the amount of prestige attached to a particular school’s MBA program, the type of connections you have once you graduate and the type of business you pursue once you have your degree. Let’s take a look at how all three of these variables influence what you can make with your MBA degree.

According to recent statistics, it really is worth staying in school to get your MBA. Starting salary numbers jump significantly when you have your MBA from approximately $56,000 a year to $76,000 a year. When you extrapolate that five years into the future, the earning gap is even larger, with most MBA students earning well over $100,000. There are a number of things that can influence that earning potential, however.

Almost every major university in North America has an MBA program, but not all MBAs are created equally. Just as there are some schools that specialize in microbiology and others that churn out exceptional surgeons, some schools are better known for having solid MBA programs. You can significantly increase your earning potential by graduating from a school like Harvard that has an established MBA program that is highly respected as opposed to graduating from a school that has just started an MBA program.

As many of you know, the real world is less about what you know and more about who you know. Our professors try to hammer into our heads how important it is to network while we’re in school and when you look at the influence networking has on MBA earning potential, you’ll see why. Many times, things like our resumes, where we graduated in our class and the grades we received on our final exams mean very little if you know someone who can start your career off on the right foot. Perhaps more than any other single factor, who you know can determine how much you will make right out of school with your MBA.

Finally, not all types of companies give the same kind of rewards. Just like social work tends to be the lowest earning degree one can get, if you affiliate yourself with a law firm or another business that rakes in the cash, you will likely find significantly higher earning numbers over the life of your degree. The question that many of us have to ask at one time or another is how happy you’ll be working at the job your MBA earns you. Will the extra cash bring you genuine happiness or will working at a job that helps to make the world a better place be a more significant reward?

Earning potential with your MBA is a major concern that almost every student has, however, putting a price on happiness is something that no one can do.
